What We Do for Our Community
Since 2005, Maryville Kiwanis has been the sponsoring organization for Imagination Library in Blount County. Imagination Library is a program in which every enrolled child receives a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book every month in the mail from birth to age 5. The goal of the program is to improve reading readiness and foster a love of reading in young children. As the sponsoring organization, Maryville Kiwanis raises over $60,000 per year through contributions, grants, and fundraising and works to increase enrollment.
Community Food Connection
In addition to providing financial support, members of Maryville Kiwanis work at Community Food Connection on the 4th Wednesday of each month bagging groceries and distributing food to clients.
As part of the “Read for Success” program in Blount County Schools, members of Maryville Kiwanis spend an hour per week either reading to young children or working with struggling readers.
Salvation Army Bell-ringing
Each December, members of Maryville Kiwanis, working in two-hour shifts, spend five days ringing bells for the Salvation Army. One of these days is staffed by our Service Leadership Programs – Circle K, Key Clubs, and Builders Clubs.
